Listening Earth
Andrew Skeoch & Sarah Koschak - Listening Earth
Andrew Skeoch & his wife Sarah Koschak are the founders of Listening Earth, and have been recording nature sounds since 1993. Andrew is primarily responsible for the audio recording, and Sarah is a professional nature photographer, capturing images of the places they visit. Together they travel to the remote regions of the world to capture nature in it's true glory.
Andrew's nature recordings have been commissioned for many high profile film & TV productions, including working with Peter Gabriel for the 'Rabbit Proof Fence' soundtrack. He is widely known for his innovative methods and as a pioneer for digitally recorded nature CDs within Australia. His albums now please listeners from all corners of the globe.
Andrew & Sara live in Castlemaine, central Victoria. They live in a mud-brick home surrounded by native Australian bushland. They have a sound studio and office here that runs solely off solar electricity. Their passion is clearly evident by the way they immerse themselves in nature and by the quality of the recordings they produce.
Andrew's Nature Recording Equipment
After trying many types of microphones, recorders and techniques, Andrew has found what he believes to be the perfect way to capture natural sounds:
- A quasi-binaural microphone system, known as a SASS (Stereo Ambient Sampling System)
- 2 x Sennheiser MKH20 omni-directional microphones (housed within the SASS)
- A Sound Devices 722 digital audio recorder (to record the sounds)
Andrew's setup is without a doubt 'top of the range' and you can truly hear the clarity and binaural soundscapes through his CDs because of this.
